MM2 of The Monsters How to Survive the Locust
Sprint, break line of sight, hide, and spend the five-second taser only when the hunter is already in melee.
Surviving MM2 of The Monsters is a line-of-sight problem, not a stamina race. The Locust is a player with a larger body, a regular attack, and a special that is often bound to Q. You are one of up to 29 other survivors on a darkened house- or hotel-style nest. The hunter wants a clean hallway. You want a corner, a locker, and a reason they look the other way.
If you have not finished the first-hour loop, read Getting Started first. Binds are on the controls sheet. Hiding furniture is in Best Hiding Spots. This page is the chase: sprint, break, hide, stun, and what to do when you still die.
Sprint, then disappear
Keyboard sprint is Left Control. Mobile uses the on-screen sprint control. Do not hold it from spawn. Sprint is for the moment the Locust has already seen you, or you have already heard the heavy footstep and need to reach a corner. A straight sprint down a long hall is a gift. Cut at the first intersection, then stop sprinting so your footstep trail goes quiet.
Breaking line of sight is the actual skill. A monster that cannot see you has to guess a door. A monster that can see your back will follow you into the locker animation. After the corner, commit to a hide or a second turn. Do not peek to “check.” Peeking is how highlight clips start.
The maps look like classic MM2 houses and hotels, but they play larger. That extra length helps only if you know a second route — a vent, a window drop, a stair under the floor. If you do not, hide immediately instead of touring.
Hide on purpose, not in panic
Lockers work when the hunter did not watch you enter. Vents work off the main loop. Under-floor rooms work when the chase is loud upstairs. Windows are for repositioning, not for camping a sill. Secret rooms are strong until the server learns them; after that they are a shared coffin.
Sound gets you killed. Fidgeting in a locker, jumping to see better, and spamming interact all read as a player. If the Locust is checking lockers in order, leave before they reach yours. The Locust dossier is worth a skim so you know the body is large, loud, and able to inspect the same props you use.
Do not follow crowds. A pile of avatars around a TV, a glowing prop, or a downed teammate is a buffet. Half the server walks toward the scare. You walk away, then hide.
Taser timing and the camera
The taser is a limited-use ~5 second stun when you are in range. It is not a gun. Hold it for the frame where the Locust is already swinging or filling the doorway. Stun, take the corner you already picked, then hide. Stunning in an open lobby just starts the chase again on worse terms.
If the stun does not apply, you were out of range, you already spent the charge, or the round hit a bug. Do not stand there recasting. Move. The camera lives in the shop as an information tool — use the live tooltip, then treat it as a setup for a hide, not a second taser. Spend order is on the item tier list.
Nights, keys, and revive
Keys on the map are bait as much as currency. Grab the ones on your loop. Skip the underground pickup if you heard the hunter on the stairs. Nights reward players who last; they are not a reason to greed a key in the open. If a revive prompt appears after you die, it may cost resources. Buy another chance when you still do not know the layout. Skip it when the Locust is camping your locker and you are out of keys.
Map voting matters. If you just died because every ground-floor locker was already checked, vote a different layout. Hotel-style floors change the stair problem. The hunter who learned your pocket should have to re-learn a floor plan.
After you die anyway
Spectate the Locust’s feet, not the jumpscare. Note which lockers they open, which vents they skip, and whether they hold Q for a room clear or a single target. That is how you last the next night. If you want the other job, switch to How to Become the Monster and hunt with those locker habits. Body strength is ranked on the monster tier list; patch notes sit on the Locust update page.
A survived night is boring on purpose: you sprinted once, vanished, did not peek, and still have a taser charge. If your deaths are always in the first hallway, you are fighting the camera, not the monster — fix that on the controls page, then come back here for the chase.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for survivors and hunters in MM2 of The Monsters.
What is the sprint key?
Left Control on keyboard. Mobile uses the on-screen sprint control. Full binds are on the controls sheet.
How long does the taser stun last?
About five seconds, and it is limited-use. Save it for melee range, then hide. Do not treat it like a Murder Mystery 2 gun.
Should I follow other players when something loud happens?
No. Crowds around TVs and props are free kills. Break away, then use a locker or vent from Best Hiding Spots.
Does revive always bring me back?
Revive can appear after a death and may cost resources. Use it to learn a layout. Skip it if you are broke and the Locust already knows your hiding pocket.
Is the Locust an NPC?
No. It is a player-controlled monster. Read the Locust dossier and, if you want the role yourself, How to Become the Monster.
What should I do after I survive a night?
Spend keys using the item tier list, then either hunt or vote a map you have not died on yet. The Guides Hub lists the next page for each job.
